Genesis provides a robust base to build a WordPress theme, and saves the developer a lot of extra effort that is better spent doing the work relevant to the project at hand, instead of building a lot of backend code by hand. Genesis can be extended by using Child themes, that provide the design part and the custom functionality needed by a particular project.
